Discussion:
[AG-TECH] Questions about installing AG Client on Windows

Hi All

There is a group of people in Victoria that wish to setup an AG Venue
Client to be able to listen in and see an AG meeting to be held at UTS
next week.

I was trying to install the software myself to see what probs would
arise. Following "How to Install AG 3.0 on Windows XP" at
http://www.accessgrid.org/node/17

Venue Server:
Venue Client is installed. When I enter a Venue Server; either
https://vv3.ap-accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default or
https://vv3.accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default
I get a message of operation timed out.

Unicast:
If I try to switch to unicast I get a message that "No bridges are
currently available". I presume the bridge info is supplied by the Venue
Server?

Signed Certificate:
At some stage if the above two things can work will it fail as there is
no certificate?

Mike,

I can't offer any Windows specific tips, but I just wanted to mention that the venue servers and bridges you mention are all up and running as normal.

In general, no certificate is needed by a venue client. Very rarely, certain venues may be set up to require a certificate (none are set up that way on those two servers at the moment).

You said "When I enter a Venue Server" - does that mean you have succeeded in entering? e.g. when you enter the APAG lobby, did you see other participants listed in your venue client? (***@UQ, Newcastle, RCC, Uni of Queensland are in the lobby right now and should be listed in your venue client if it succeeds in entering the APAG lobby).

Bridges really only relate to the media streams (vic & rat) - using or not using a bridge will have no effect on the venue client's ability to enter a venue in the first place.

Yeah I can connect OK with my setup in our AG room.

Good. I'll be able to pass that along. I didn't know before if it was
absolutely needed in the general case at the client end.
No success in entering. The connection times out but it could be because
of firewall settings here applied to desktop PCs.

I'd guess thats almost certainly the case - firewall specific to the machine or the network that its on. Maybe you could temporarily move the machine to your AG room's network, just to test?

Hello Mike,

If you use the "Windows XP Bundled Installer" shown under Stable Release 3.2 on http://www.accessgrid.org/software you should get the latest (and current) Windows version which was released 7 Feb 2011.

I haven't installed it recently, but from memory it will ask if it requires any firewalls to be opened.
The APAG server https://vv3.ap-accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default currently works fine for me via unicast using the APAG bridge. (Multicast currently isn't crossing the Tasman it seems.)

If you check in Tools\Preferences\Bridging you should have the following two addresses listed in the Bridge Registries box.
http://www.accessgrid.org/registry/peers.txt
http://www.ap-accessgrid.org/registry/peers.txt

In the list of bridges on the lower half of that window you should see about 15 bridges listed in ping order. If in doubt click on Purge Bridge Cache and wait for a couple of minutes until the egg timer completes and then Save. You should have a refreshed list. Many of the bridges won't work! However APAG and AccessGrid.org appear to be fine today. Auckland is usually reliable but has disappeared this afternoon.

You may know all this....

G'day Mike and All

Another thing to check is that your institution doesn't use a network "proxy". This will prevent you from getting any Unicast bridges listed.

See http://www.accessgrid.org/node/1086 for some tips and tricks.

Also - you might like to check out these documents too:

Hope these help!

Jason.

Hi all

Tried it last night at home and the bridges and AG venues are populated
OK. When the Venue Client runs it asked for pythonw.exe to be allowed
access through the firewall. So it look slike my probs at UTS are down
to firewall issues.

Thanks for all the help. The posts will prob help out others in future.

Nothing in lower box. Purged bridge cache and it didn't do anything.
Found where logging was:
C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\AccessGrid3\Logs and log there says:
"07/02/13 14:17:20 3116 RegistryClient registryclient.py:61 ERROR Failed
to connect to registry vv3.accessgrid.org:8030"

So that suggests a firewall issue. Am going to AG room and install on a
PC there and see if there is a difference.

Hi All
There is a group of people in Victoria that wish to setup an AG Venue
Client to be able to listen in and see an AG meeting to be held at
UTS next week.
I was trying to install the software myself to see what probs would
arise. Following "How to Install AG 3.0 on Windows XP" at
http://www.accessgrid.org/node/17
Venue Client is installed. When I enter a Venue Server; either
https://vv3.ap-accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default or
https://vv3.accessgrid.org:8000/Venues/default
I get a message of operation timed out.
If I try to switch to unicast I get a message that "No bridges are
currently available". I presume the bridge info is supplied by the
Venue Server?
At some stage if the above two things can work will it fail as there
is no certificate?
